Organised Anarchy

A solo exhibition by
Qeren Creates

Organised Anarchy will be the young Qeren Creates’s first gallery solo exhibition. This exciting multi-discipline artist will show paintings, animation and sculpture that explore the apparent distinctions between the concepts of organisation and anarchy in contemporary urban life.

The exhibition follows Qeren’s primary character, Imaginary Friend - a symbol for the spark of hope we carry from our childhood - through a heavily urbanised cityscape, continuing Qeren’s practice of investigating how man-made environments amplify, suppress and generally affect the inherent hope we hold in us as human beings.

The work meditates on the dualities that become more visible in the densely populated city: Construction and entropy, billboards with corporate advertising paid for with fees and guerilla graffiti paid for with fines, rising and falling skylines, the rise of unknown virtual worlds in the image of the known physical world and the efforts made to save this planet while pursuing projects to colonise new ones - and how these phenomena hold much in common with each other, despite appearing as opposites.

Organised Anarchy will run from 6 April (First Thursdays) to 27 April 2023 at the WORLDART gallery at 54 Church Street, Cape Town cbd.
