The sky is the limit

by

Norman O’Flynn

An exhibition of interior and still life artworks by Norman O’Flynn

Norman O’Flynn has been at the forefront of the recent resurgence of interior and still life paintings and his latest exhibition, titled The sky is the limit, features a selection of editioned artworks based on paintings he painted in this genre.

For centuries interior and still life paintings have told us about the objects we value. Fresh fruit and flowers in the 16 and 17th centuries, musical instruments and technological objects in the 18th century and paintings with ornate frames in Victorian times. What would it be today?

If you ask Norman O’Flynn it would be paintings and sculptures by artists like Lichtenstein and Kaws. Books with titles that refer to capitalist consumption that leaves us confused and terrified while we search for meaning in popular culture and find nostalgia in figurines of super heroes from our childhood. Apartments don’t have ceilings and suggest places where we escape to way beyond this world and its walls. The sky is the limit only because we have so many questions.

This exhibition can be viewed at www.worldart.co.za/normanoflynn. All the works are digitally printed on plexi-glass, signed and numbered by the artist and framed in a charcoal-coloured aluminium frame.

Norman O’Flynn born (b. 1971), lives and works in Cape Town as a painter, sculptor and all-round constructor.
