POST MORTEM 2010 – A SHORT FILM BY DALE YUDELMAN

“During a morning talk show on leading national radio station SAFM, three South Africans – Fanie, Robert and Angela – call in to voice their opinion on the news of South Africa winning the Soccer World Cup 2010 bid. What emerges is an unselfconscious social portrait as conversations illuminate some of the misgivings, old fears and hidden agendas that lurk within. Yet in spite of prejudice, an innocent and bold optimism reveals itself in the passionate way South Africans participate and relate to matters of national pride.”

‘Post Mortem 2010’ is the latest artwork by Cape Town based photographer and artist,

Dale Yudelman. This five-minute installation piece viewed in a games console takes a look at how the upcoming World Cup is being perceived by different roll players and segments of our society. With a combination of video footage which Yudelman shot around Cape Town mixed with audio off the radio; the film emphasizes opinions and emotions ranging from dubious to those who see it as an opportunity to gain economically and otherwise. It is a touching, energetic and sharp montage – leaving the spectator to ponder the issues with new points of view to consider.

Yudelman’s career in photography has led him through two eras of South African history as well as across several continents. His work can be found in major corporate and private art collections around the world. He was recently honoured with three awards at the FujiFilm Professional Photo Awards 2006.
