STREET POP FEATURING FRINGE AND ALPHA LONGBOARDS 6-27 JULY

The latest exhibition at the Worldart gallery in Cape Town will exhibit works by a range of artists who express themselves in the street art and pop art genres.

Johannesburg based artist Fringe will be introduced with his first solo exhibition to be held in Cape Town. His graffiti inspired mixed media works have proven to be popular in Johannesburg as people relate to his interpretation of a world that seems to be more obsessed with the wrong things than ever before. Fringe prefers to keep his real identity confidential and uses familiar popular images to express his views and ideas in an urban contemporary style.

Also on display will be a collection of skateboards painted by local artists and curated by Kent Lingeveldt from Alpha Longboards. The list of artists includes ICE7, one of the pioneers of street art in Cape Town, and Kilmany-Jo Liversage, whose street art inspired portraits are collected world-wide. Other artists include Dion Cupido, ELLO XRAY EYEZ, Conform, Atang Tshikare and Kaylin Car. Alpha Longboards was started in Woodstock, Cape Town, in 2001 and has since become respected for their handcrafted skate boards.

These two exhibitions will be on show at the Worldart gallery (54 Church Street, Cape Town cbd) simultaneously from 6 -27 July and opens on the monthly First Thursday night when art galleries in Cape Town stay open till 9pm.
