Geena Wilkinson
(b. 1994) lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
Geena Wilkinson was born in 1994 in Cape Town, South Africa, where she currently lives and works. In 2016, she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, at the University of Cape Town, RSA. In 2019, Wilkinson returned to UCT as an Andrew W. Mellon Scholar to complete an Honours in Curatorship at the Centre for Curating the Archive, graduating with a first class pass as a Golden Key Scholar.
Recent group exhibitions include the Investec Cape Town Art Fair with WORLDART; Death Row Dinner at THEFOURTH, in Cape Town, the Turbine Art Fair and the RMB Latitudes Art Fair, presented by WORLDART in Johannesburg. Feeling Things with Rust-en-Vrede Gallery at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, in South Africa, in 2021; THE SPECTACLE at THEFOURTH, in Cape Town; Shaping Things: An exploration of clay and ceramics in contemporary South African art practice, at SMAC Gallery, in Stellenbosch; Ocular at 131A Gallery, in Cape Town, all in 2020; and Bad Taste: Image in Crisis at SMITH Studio, Cape Town, in 2019.
In 2023, Wilkinson presented a solo exhibition with the Norval Foundation at their satellite gallery at Boschendal Estate, in Franschoek, South Africa. Further solo exhibitions include Head First, at 99 Loop Gallery in 2018, and bellyache, at Worldart Gallery, in 2021, both in Cape Town. Notably in 2015, she was selected as a finalist for the Sanlam Portrait Award, in the top 100.
In 2024, Wilkinson exhibited with WORLDART at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, including an artwork in the Cabinet | Clay section, curated by Laura Vincenti. WORLDART also presented her work at the RMB Latitudes Art Fair in Johannesburg, In September, she presents a solo exhibition, The Right Moment, with WORLDART. In October 2024 Wilkinson is set to show new work with Aity Gallery (Franschoek) at the Affordable Affordable Art Fair UK, in London.
