MARY VISSER
Mary Visser (b. 1971) grew up in Somerset West near Cape Town.
She studied drawing and painting at Rhodes University in Makhanda (previously Grahamstown), where she graduated in 1992. In 2013 she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Art, with distinction, at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town.
Her work is in collections locally and abroad including those of the University of Cape Town, Nando’s, Spier and the New Constitutional Court, Johannesburg.
“I make work in order to link random and unrelated visual fragments and hopefully discover new harmonies. I generate many process collages, 3-d objects and paintings on paper. Feeding into these images are the quick drawings and notes I make while strolling or driving around my home and studio. I look out for intriguing visual conversations in this collection of thoughts, ideas and shapes in order to prompt a new painting.”
