ON REVOLT, FREEDOM AND SOCIAL CHANGE

The iconic image of Che Guevara has become a symbol of revolt, freedom and social change all over the world and a mass produced, popular culture image . This specific image is now seen as more recognizable as the Mona Lisa and has taken on an energy that surpasses even the real person depicted. This grid of Che faces depicts him as a warrior with Maori and prison tattoos hinting at the duel function of the source material: revolution warrior imprisoned by mass popularity.

Originally the painting was part of the “Dead Man’s Hand” exhibition for the 2011 tattoo convention and fitted into the theme by revering to the little known fact that Che Guevara’s hands were both cut off after his assassination to prove his identity.
